Why people keep it open
Cryptographically random
Uses the browser’s secure generator, the same one used for TLS keys.
Passphrases too
Four or five random words are easier to remember and just as strong.
Never leaves your device
Nothing is sent, logged or stored. Close the tab and it is gone.
Questions
How strong is strong enough?
For an online account, aim for 70 bits of entropy or more. A 14-character random password or a five-word passphrase gets you there.
Why exclude look-alike characters?
Characters such as O and 0 or l and 1 are easy to misread when you have to type a password by hand.
Should I reuse a strong password?
No. One password per site, ideally kept in a password manager.
